Tranquility in Remote and Beautiful Shetland
The Lodge and The Peerie House
These are two lovely seaside houses available to rent on the island of Fetlar in the Shetland Isles. They are located in the middle of the island, within the privacy of the walled garden of Leagarth House while enjoying their own space and surroundings. A stone’s throw from the sea both houses benefit from superb uninterrupted views across the bay.
The Lodge is the larger of the two houses. In 2019 it won an award for the most tranquil accomodation in the Shetland Islands from Lux Life magazine. It has accommodation for up to six people in three double bedrooms.
It was originally built as the gardeners cottage to Leagarth house by Sir Watson Cheyne ( a pioneering surgeon who grew up in Fetlar) in approximately 1900. It has recently undergone extensive renovation making it a modern comfortable house whilst retaining all its original features.
Next door to the Lodge is the old pump house now known as The Peerie House – peerie meaning small in Shetland dialect. It is small but perfect for a couple or a pair of friends. It has also recently undergone extensive renovation and is now a very comfortable, light and airy house.
The houses are well equipped and include all linen and towels, together with free wifi.
The Lodge has recently been renovated to a high standard, whilst retaining its original character. The main rooms all benefit from fabulous views across Tresta Bay, where you may chance upon seals, porpoises and even whales frolicking in the waves whilst otters play on the rocks.
The Lodge has recently been fitted out with a modern new kitchen. It has a hob, separate oven, microwave, toaster, cafetiere and dishwasher and is well provided with utensils and cooking equipment. Plenty of dishes, bowls and cutlery are provided and a table and chairs which can seat up to six or can be folded down to accomodate two or four people as required.
The kitchen is conveniently accessed either from the garden and parking area or the sitting room. The sitting room faces South and is very light and airy with a large bay window overlooking the garden and the sea beyond. It has a comfortable sofa and armchairs, a television and is well equipped with games and books for visitors.
The bathroom has a bath with shower over to accommodate both those who like to shower and those who prefer a bath, especially those with small children.
There is also a separate utility area with a washing machine and tumble dryer
The Peerie house has also been upgraded and is now a comfortable and cosy cottage for one or two people. The sitting room has a fabulous view over the bay with a comfortable sofa, dining table and television.
The Peerie House is located inside a walled garden next door to the Lodge. With views over the bay.
It has one bedroom with twin beds which can be pushed together on request. There is a pretty sitting room overlooking the bay with a sofa and table ( which seats up to four people), leading onto a galley kitchen, and generous shower room.
Although the kitchen is small it is well equipped with a hob, oven, microwave, toaster, cafetiere, electric hand whisk in addition to a good range of cookware and tableware. In the adjoining outhouse there is a freezer, washing machine and tumbler dryer.
